Ford’s Endeavour has be one of the longest selling premium SUV in India. Ford has now introduced the new-generation Endeavour for the car market. The new Endeavour has been built from scratch on an all new platform. The localisation on the new Endeavour has been increased and it is manufactured in Ford’s Chennai plant. The Endeavour is available with two engine options, one is the 2.2-litre and the second the 3.2-litre. The Endeavour will be made available with two and four wheel drive options.
The Ford Endeavour still looks muscular, however with the new Kinetic Design 2.0, it does look a lot more contemporary. There is the new hexagonal front grille with loads of chrome and the pulled back headlamps. The fog lamps look like a part of the skid plates that makes it look rugged.
The large haunches on the wheel arches makes it look muscular and the rising belt line adds to the aggression. The 18-inch alloy wheels fill the wheel wells and adds to the muscular styling. The pillars are blacked out and there are silver roof rails too. The rear of the Endeavour has the large chrome strip and the skid plates continue even at the bottom of the SUV. The new Endeavour does look contemporary and the new-generation doesn’t look anything like the outgoing version, which has more of boxy looks.
The interiors of the Endeavour are all-new. There are the black and beige dual-tone interiors with a new four-spoke Ford steering wheel. There is a simple looking instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment system and large size AC vents. The dashboard has a simple and easy to operate layout. The Endeavour comes loaded with features like second row LED Map lamps, power outlet, illuminated glove box, multi-information display, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, leather upholstery, leather wrapped gear knob and steering wheel, multi-colour interior ambient lighting, remote keyless entry, tilt adjustable steering, dual horn, electrically folding ORVMs, rear parking sensors, rear AC vents for second and third rows, rear defogger, rear wiper with washer, audio controls on steering wheel, voice command, battery saver, dual zone AC, rear view camera, power liftgate, rain sensing wipers, adjustable speed limiter, cruise control, automatic headlamps, front parking sensors, semi-auto parallel park, power folding third row seats, terrain management system, SYNC with Touchscreen.
The Endeavour is a seven-seater with three rows of seating. The third row of seats fold down flat making it convenient to load things. The new Endeavour has more space than the outgoing version.
Engine and Transmission
The 2.2-litre diesel engine on the Endeavour produces 158bhp of power, 385Nm of torque and this comes with a six-speed manual and automatic transmission options. The manual is offered with a 4×2 and 4×4 options, while the auto is only 4×2. The second engine on offer is the 3.2-litre diesel engine that churns 198bhp of power and 470Nm of maximum torque. This is available only with a six-speed automatic and comes with a 4×4 option alone.
Performance and Handling
In terms of performance, the 3.2-litre diesel engine will be a better performer. The four-wheel drive versions of the Endeavour are available on 2.2-litre manual and 3.2-litre diesel engines. These engines have been tuned for high torque and better fuel efficiency too.
The braking system on the Endeavour are much better than the previous version. All the four brakes are discs and they have 18-inch tyres with a profile of 265/60 for better grip.
The 2198 cc Diesel – powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 10 kmpl in city and 12 kmpl on highways.
The safety features offered on the Endeavour are multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, traction control, hill launch assist, Ford MyKey, Hill Descent Control and Burglar Alarm.
The Ford Endeavour is a great SUV to consider in this segment. The styling is good, power and features are the best in class. The Endeavour is certainly the SUV to buy in this segment.
The Ford Endeavour will rival the best-seller in this segment, the Toyota Fortuner. This new SUV is likely to buy the Fortuner a tough time, until the new Fortuner is launched.
